Title: Impeachment and Impeachers: A 19th Century Perspective.
Description: While most news commentary on the present impeachment controversy focuses on the more recent cases of Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton, the clearest parallel to the present case may be found in the impeachment in the House, and exoneration in the Senate, of President Andrew Johnson in 1868. This lecture focuses on the story of Andrew Johnson and the Republicans, recounting this episode and drawing out its very many parallels with the present.
