Dye Lab Certification Workshop is for members who have this level of expertise in the dye lab:

Learning Objective
To be able to:
- color silk fabric and wool skeins using a dye bath
Get down and dirty with this immersion dyeing class using Acid dyes. Students will learn the basics of how to color silk fabric and wool skeins using a dye bath. Color is free and loose while learning the step by step method of safely using Acid dyes. It is a good introduction to the process of immersion dyeing.
You will also learn the 'house rules' of the dye lab', including how to be sure the work area is cleaned and prepped for next user.
Learning Outcome
Once certified a member will be able to:
- Apply skills from this certification session to work independently in the dye lab using the acid dyes
Membership Types and Access to the Dye Lab
Once certified a member will be able to use the sewing machines independently depending on membership type:
- Certified library card members will have access to the sewing machines during the hours of 10am-6pm Tuesday to Thursday and 10am-5pm Friday and Saturday
- Certified members who have red entry badges will have access to the sewing machines for 22hrs a days, 7 days a week.
Teacher: Melanie Audet
Melanie Audet is originally from the Detroit area of Michigan. She received a BA from Albion College and a BFA from the Oregon College of Art and Craft, where she learned how to use synthetic dyes. She has continued her education by learning the art of natural dyes. She is the owner and proprietor of Melanie Audet Limited Editions and Twig and Berry Dyes. Her love for textiles is more of a compulsion and she loves to share this passion with others.
