Welcome to our clay face sculpture class for beginners! In this class you will learn the fundamentals of sculpting the human face using air dry clay.

  • This class will be completed in 2 separate sessions.
  • Each session will be 3 hours of hands on instruction.
  • All materials will be provided.
  • We will start by examining the basic structure of the face, including the skull, jawline, and the placement of key facial features such as the eyes, nose, and mouth. Understanding the underlying structure of the face is essential for creating a realistic and proportionate sculpture.
  • In this class we will delve into facial proportions paying close attention to the relationship between the features and their placement on the face. You will learn how to apply these concepts to your sculpture to create a balanced and harmonious composition.
  • Throughout the class we will explore various techniques for sculpting with clay; including, how to create a small wooden sculpting platform, how to use sculpting tools, and how to build up the sculpture in layers.
  • We will also cover techniques for adding texture, shading, and other details to your sculpture to bring it to life.
  • Finally, we will discuss how to finish and preserve your sculpture for display. At the end of the class you will have a completed clay face sculpture that you can be proud of!
