DESCRIPTION:In this class, learn how to use the resources available to res
earch the history of any property in El Paso County. The program will feat
ure select materials from the Regional History & Genealogy Department
that are not typically available outside the department. The session wi
ll include a focused presentation introducing key tools and strategies, fo
llowed by a guided, hands-on practice using local records and research dat
abases. Participants will explore how to answer questions such as: When wa
s the property built? Who built it? Who first acquired the land from the f
ederal government? When was the neighborhood platted? And how does the sto
ry of a particular property or subdivision fit into the broader history of
Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak region? By the end of the class, att
endees will leave with practical research skills, a clearer understanding
of available resources, and a roadmap for continuing their property histor
y research on their own.
