Event Details

Meet Colorado College history professor Jane Murphy, CC students Sabrina Brewer and Brian DeLong, and Denver-based filmmaker Sylvia Lambe and learn about their new documentary on Dr. Justina Ford, the first African-American woman licensed to practice medicine in the Colorado.

Starting in 1902, she worked as a pediatrician and gynecologist from her Denver home since African-Americans were barred from working in Colorado hospitals until 1950, two years before her death at age 81. It is estimated that she delivered almost 8,000 babies during her career.
