What did the average American know about the Holocaust as it was occurring and what what the response?  This program uses content from The U.S. and the Holocaust, a film by Ken Burns, Lynn Novick and Sarah Botstein, to examine how American people and our leaders responded to one of the greatest humanitatian disasters of the twentieth century, and how this catastrophe challenged our identity as a nation of immigrants and the very ideals of our democracy.  Through this program, educators wiill appy sound pedagogy when planning  and implementing Holocaust lessons; Understand how the Nazi ideology of racial antisemitism and terrirotial expansion led to and shaped  World War II and the Holocaust; Analyze America's response to the Holocaust within the contest of World War II; And identify and construct activities that build context around clips from the film, The U.S. and the Holocaust.  This program is being offered as part of the Americans and the Holocaust Exhibit.
