In this class, students will be introduced to basic surface design techniques. Students will learn how to thicken powdered fiber reactive dyes with print paste, how to mix colors, how to apply dyes onto fabric and how to set these colors using soda ash and steam. We will be making our own color wheel and learning basic color theory. This class is for those who are more technically minded and who are interested in learning the basic processes of fiber reactive dyes before applying any type of creativity.

Material Fee: $20 includes fabric, dyes and chemicals

Teacher: Melanie Audet

Melanie Audet is originally from the Detroit area of Michigan.  She received a BA from Albion College and a  BFA from the Oregon College of Art and Craft, where she learned how to use synthetic dyes.  She has continued her education by learning the art of natural dyes. She is the owner and proprietor of Melanie Audet Limited Editions and Twig and Berry Dyes.   Her love for textiles is more of a compulsion and she loves to share this passion with others.
