DYE LAB-Intro to Natural Dyes

Description

Who is this class for: Beginners

Cost: $85 member $95 non member+ $25 supply fee payable to teacher at class (cash or checks)

In this class students will learn and play with how to thicken natural dyes and mordants. Students will learn how to apply the dyes to fabric using surface design techniques such as brushes, stamps, thermofax and monoprinting techniques to create pattern, color and texture. The instructor will provide different fabrics for students to experiment with and see how the dye looks on different weaves and different types of fabric. Students will create samples and walk away with a sample binder of the various techniques and fabrics.

Materials fee: $25, includes dye, chemicals and fabric

Learning Outcome: students will learn how to use natural dye with surface design techniques to design their own fabric

Teacher: Melanie Audet

Melanie Audet is originally from the Detroit area of Michigan.  She received a BA from Albion College and a  BFA from the Oregon College of Art and Craft, where she learned how to use synthetic dyes. She has continued her education by learning the art of natural dyes. She is the owner and proprietor of Melanie Audet Limited Editions.   Her love for textiles is more of a compulsion and she loves to share this passion with others.
