Event Details

The 2023 Pikes Peak Poetry Summit theme is "Art is a Bridge to New Perspectives." This year we are celebrating poetry across Colorado with features from all over the state. Full details of the event here.

We are going to create a community poem about our experiences of poetry. Poetry Heals creates community poems by collecting tags with words and phrases from a crowd, tying the tags on a string, and then making them into a poem on the spot. For this workshop, we are going to juice the proceedings with prompts for short group poems and individual poems about poetry and the experience of reading, hearing, and writing it. Then we will create tags with words and phrases to tie on a string. We will provide pens, pencils, crayons, markers, paper, tags. and a very long string. We create community and create a poem!

Molly is the Executive Director of Poetry Heals and has taught writing since 1978 at high schools, colleges, universities, community colleges, libraries, kitchen tables, and so on. She was the Writing Center Director at Colorado College from 1987-2001 and has since had her own writing consulting firm. Molly founded Poetry Heals (with a lot of help from her friends and family) in 2016. She is a member of the Colorado Nonprofit Association and has served the regional Quaker community for many years.

Lindsay Deen is a local tutor, writer, poet, artist, and young IT professional living in Colorado Springs, CO. She believes every day is a chance to make a difference and focuses her work to achieve positive growth for herself and others. As a private tutor, Lindsay encourages communication and connection for youth as they struggle to define themselves and their life goals. She tutors English, math, and science for ages in middle school through college level students, working to connect coursework to real-life principles. Her work also includes facilitating therapeutic poetry workshop sessions with Poetry Heals. She loves literature, Dungeons & Dragons, yoga, watching people play video games, life, and long, lovely walks beneath Colorado skies.

The workshops are provided at no cost. All workshops are 45 minutes in duration. Please prepare change for the metered parking.

Seats are limited to 50 people for this workshop. Ages 12 and older.
