Event Details
Sunny Weber, author of the Pups & Purrs series and animal welfare advocate, will explore the importance of teaching compassion, respect, empathy, and kindness to animals, and therefore people. She’ll also touch on "The Link"--the connection of early animal abuse and how it escalates to violence against people. She will talk about the protagonists of her series, what they experience, and how empathy can be learned directly from the voice of the dog as each narrates his or her own life experiences. Though written for a younger audience, her books appeal to readers of all ages, including parents, teachers, counselors, and humane educators.
The Pups & Purrs Series is delicately didactic, with lessons coming from the animal characters’ personal experiences and musings in their lives. Each book in the series features classic coming of age stories with multi-layered themes and messages for a wide variety of readers.
The Pups & Purrs Series illustrates animal welfare issues in both wild and domestic worlds. The books are endorsed by such varied experts as Temple Grandin, PhD/Animal Sciences Professor at Colorado State University; Stanley Gehrt/Professor of Wildlife Ecology at Ohio State University; Faith Maloney/Founder of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah; Ann Howie/LICSW, ACSW, CEO of Human/Animal Solutions, Olympia, Washington; Colorado Senator Daniel Kagan; and many others.
All three books in the Pups & Purrs series have won numerous awards including multiple CIPA EVVY Awards, Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards, and Readers Choice Awards. They have also garnered glowing reviews from Kirkus, Blue Ink, Readers Choice, and professional blog book reviewers.
