Have you always wanted to know more about the field of robotics -- how people get into it, which direction it's heading, and maybe even how you can get started on building your own robots? Join us online for this live panel discussion on robotics! We'll be talking about all things robotics, including the past and future of the field, the easiest and most cost-effective ways to get started, and more.
Get to know the panelists:
- Jeanette Breton is a Chemical Engineer by degree that 'transitioned' to a technologist early in her career. This 'transition' is the reason for much of her current passion around enabling and supporting high schoolers to get involved in many different maker types of projects and industry experiences to discover their passion as they determine their career pathway in either technology, engineering and/or entrepreneurship. As a tinkerer in different automation technologies her current projects are driven by her desire to build and implement a LEGO sorter with a CNC 3-axis frame, 3D Printing, OpenPNP, and machine learning techniques. - Mike Hinkle is a retired IT architect who's now active as a robotics coach, engineering mentor, combat robot enthusiast and wide-ranging maker. He has way too many tools (just ask Jeanette) and keeps busy learning all the latest tech and building cool – and sometimes useful -- projects with it. - Jeff Gonyea is the creator of Zack and Zoey Adventures, a Space & STEM education brand which publishes children's space-themed books and a monthly Space and STEM-themed magazine. Jeff runs the Star Light Observatory in Colorado Springs, sharing astronomy with students and the public. In addition to running Zack and Zoey Adventures, Jeff is a Space Education Specialist and Lead Educator at the Space Foundation Discovery Center. - Keith Horowitz has been a life-long technology geek and software programmer. He has won awards for his Lego robot and built homemade robots. He recently has gotten involved in building home automation and related gadgets in the IOT field, and is working on digital products for escape rooms. - Lynn Sim is the chairman for the Robotics and Automation department at Pikes Peak Community College. Previously, Lynn was a software engineer for Perot Systems Corp, Dell Technologies, and NTT Data. He retired from the Air Force as a Communications Engineer and Programmer. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Colorado Technical College (now Colorado Technical University) with a BS degree in Electronics Engineering Technology and obtained his MS degree in Computer Science from the same university. His hobbies include his family, photography, electronics, and working with his hands. He greatly enjoys working with his students to help them understand robotics and automation.
