Names, dates, and places are the backbone of the family structure; but really knowing your family requires digging deeper and understanding their world. Both documents and artifacts can serve as a starting point to ask critical “Why” and “How” questions about your ancestors that will allow you to learn more about their lives and incorporate that knowledge into your family history. Join Nancy for a discussion of the mindset and means needed to gain this deeper understanding, and how to incorporate it into your family history. This presentation will be illustrated by examples from her own and other families to show how taking the time to find additional records, find subject matter experts, think outside of the box, and be persistent can help you turn a paragraph of yawn-worthy statistics into a portrait of your ancestors that your family will want to read.
